Gender and Sexuality Training

St. Augustine at URI Collaboration with Gender and Sexuality Center

St. Augustine’s is collaborating with the URI Gender and Sexuality Center to offer training for anyone who wishes to attend.  The training is being offered by the Center in their facility, and hosted by St. Augustine’s to help increase awareness and knowledge of LGBTQA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Questioning, and Allied) people and issues.  This is especially important following the recent tragedy in Orlando.  Many folks want to be more knowledgeable of our LGBTQA community, but do not know where to find good and accurate information.  This training is an opportunity for all people in our Diocese to join in learning as much as we can to better understand all of God’s people.  Please invite folks from your congregation!

In order to participate in this training, it is necessary to take the Basic Training before coming to any of the Advanced Training workshops.  So please register for the Basic Training, and then any or all of the other advanced workshops.  There will be a limit of 30 registrations for each workshop.  Register for each workshop separately.  There is no fee for any of the training.

Register for training through EventBrite at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/gender-and-sexuality-training-basic-workshop-prerequiste-for-advanced-tickets-27138805899

The Safe Zone Program evolved from the Welcome Project at URI which involved students, faculty, and staff in response to issues and needs of URI’s LGBTQA+ community.  In conjunction with other programs and activities sponsored by the URI Gender and Sexuality Center, the Welcome Project played a significant role in advancing URI to recognition in The Advocate’s Comprehensive Guide to Colleges and Universities with the Best Programs, Services, and Student Organizations for LGBT Students.

The Safe Zone Logo is an active symbol of support for the LGBTQA+ community, people, families and friends.  Posting this logo publicly demonstrates one’s dedication to being an ally to the LGBTQA+ community.  Interested parties can get a Safe Zone logo by attending any of our Safe Zone trainings!
