St Augustine’s will be hosting an Education for Ministry (EfM) group beginning on September 4. The group will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm. EfM is a 36 week program for adult Christian formation developed in 1975 at the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee (efm.sewanee.edu). The focus of the program is “life as ministry” through study, prayer, and reflection. EfM is not Bible study nor does it prepare an individual for ordination. It is a small group seminar with a mentor who acts as facilitator (not an educator) in which each member has the opportunity to share insights and discuss questions the study materials raise for them. The program has 4 years of curriculum beginning with Year 1 Old Testament, followed by Year 2 New Testament, Year 3 History of Christianity, and Year 4 Theology. The group currently consists of members from Years 2, 3, & 4 and is seeking members for Year 1 Old Testament. The program fee for this year is $375. Each year is an individual commitment and there is no requirement to fulfill all 4 years.
